Some Prada History-Following the lead of other companies in the fashion industry to absorb other labels, Prada took on a large debt to acquire the financially floundering Rome-based house of Fendi in the early 1990s. Prada was unable to turn around the money losing Fendi label, however. At the end of 2001, Prada was some $1 billion in debt and decided to sell Fendi for $250 million to LVMH who own Louis Vuitton, Dior, Givenchy and other houses. Prada is still recovering from this failed attempt at reviving the Fendi label. Other labels within the Prada Group corporate umbrella include Helmut Lang and Jil Sander.
Prada Authenticity Facts- The dust bag or sleeper bag with a draw string closure is white cotton with the Prada logo in black printed on the front. Here’s a tip. Open the dust bag and turn it inside out. There should be a label stitched deep within the bag that says, “PRADA” and below that, ‘COTTON MADE IN ITALY”. Forgers don’t often catch this little detail.
