Some Gucci History- In the early 1990s, Gucci underwent the poorest time in the company's history. The company experienced heavy losses and teetered on the edge of bankruptcy. It was the celebrity following that would propel Gucci back to the top of the industry. In 1995, Madonna appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards in head-to-toe Gucci. Soon after, Gwenyth Paltrow graced the red carpet in the season’s signature look, a red velvet tuxedo with an unbuttoned blue dress shirt, and British actress Elizabeth Hurley donned that season’s patent leather spiked boots to a movie premiere. Celebrities, fashion models, and wealthy young patrons around the world were clamoring for pieces from the new collection. In the years that would follow, nearly every major celebrity in Hollywood began wearing Gucci on awards night, and celebrity sightings once again became commonplace in the company’s boutiques. Gucci generated 1.9 billion dollars in revenue in 2004, making it one of the world's leading luxury labels. Gucci is now owned by the French conglomerate PPR.
Gucci Authenticity Facts- There is always a leather tag with the style and serial number on the interior of a Gucci bag just below the interior zippered pocket if the bag has such a pocket. If it doesn’t have an interior pocket this tag is still stitched where an interior pocket would typically be. For more on Gucci Authenticity see our 'Gucci Guide'.
