Handbag Questions from our Customers

Hi, I googled my question and was brought to your site.  I'm hoping you can help me out.  I have a small collection of Prada bags and wallets from over 20 years.  I kept the authenticity cards, but didn't keep them in the handbag or wallet, I just put them aside.  I was wondering if there is any way that I can find out which authenticity card goes with which item? Your help would be greatly appreciated, Elyse
Hi Elyse The only thing I can help you with is sharing what the cards have on them today. I really can’t tell you how they looked over the last 20 years. So, if Prada has changed them, and I would think they have, I’m afraid my info won’t be of much help. On your Prada cards there should be a style number unique to each. Example- BR3787, BL0637, BN1757, etc.

If you can locate and identify these style numbers on the cards you could perhaps Google ‘Prada BR3353’ and see if that style comes up. The chances of a 15 year old bag that is no longer made coming up are slim but it’s worth a shot. My guess is that you’ll be able to identify at least some of them this way.

I hope this helped.

Hi, Thank you for your response.  I did that yesterday as the cards are in great shape with readable numbers.  I was able to identify a knapsack and I think one of the "old school" quilted bags that I have.  Do you have any idea what the Italian "fabric" names mean?  I tried googling those to see if a transalation would help and all I got was the transalation for Tessuto which is "tissue".  The rest of the words come back as the same Italian version.  The cards have stayed more or less the same, but the envelopes have changed over the years.  Most of mine are a light blue color and then the later ones are black.  The numbers still start with a "B". Thanks again!! Elyse

You’re on the right track.

Tessuto can mean tissue, but in this case it means material, fabric that has been woven. So, if it’s a nylon, it means that it’s a finely woven nylon, as an example.

If you email me that others material names in Italian I’ll see which I know and reply.

Thank you so much.  Here are the other names I haven't been able to figure out:  Vela, Impuntu, Indiana, Nappa (I assume this is leather but what kind?), Asimmet and Bacheli. Are you familiar with Gucci bags as well?  Elyse

Vela refers more to the style than the fabric. In Italian 'vela' is a covering. So, depending on the style it could mean that the bag has a flap over closure or other aspect of a cover. Nappa refers to the suppleness or softness of the leather, not necessarily a type of leather such as deerskin, etc. Daino, as an example, means deerskin. Vitello means young calf. Prada makes bags today that they describe as vitello and daino. My assumption is that it is a combination of the 2 skins on various places of the bag. The other terms I'm not familiar with in referencing Prada bags.
